Matteo Ferrari has ended his Roma nightmare by officially completing his move to Everton on Friday.
The central defender has put pen to paper on a one-year loan deal, with the option to move outright next summer for around £3.5m.
Ferrari, capped by Italy, moves to the Premiership after an unhappy spell at the Stadio Olimpico since his switch from Parma in July 2004.
"I am very happy because I am a fan of English football, and when I was in Italy I always watched it on TV," he told the Everton website.
"I am very glad to be here because Everton showed so much confidence in me and that is why I am happy to have arrived."
Blues boss David Moyes was obviously enthusiastic about his latest transfer capture.
"He played nearly 50 games for Roma last year and was in the Italian squad that went to the European Championships," he raved.
"We are talking about someone who has got decent quality, but the biggest thing will be adapting to life in the Premiership."
Ferrari is understood to have already started training with his new colleagues, even if it is unclear whether he will get international clearance in time to face Fulham at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Everton are in talks with Inter winger Andy Van der Meyde in a bid to sort out personal terms.
The midfielder should have a medical over the weekend after a fee of around £2m was agreed with the Nerazzurri. |
