Tesser axed by Cagliari Monday 29 August, 2005

Cagliari have sacked boss Attilio Tesser just hours after the tactician took charge of his first Serie A game.

The Sardinian club have surprisingly opted to axe the Coach following the 2-1 reverse at Siena on Sunday.

Tesser, 47, was only appointed at the Sant’Elia in the summer, following some good results in Serie B with Triestina.

He was brought in to replace the departing Daniele Arrigoni, who ironically is now in pole position to get Tesser’s job.

Arrigoni quit at the end of last season for personal reasons, but is set to return following his later resignation at Torino following their financial collapse.

Cagliari, who also went out of the Coppa Italia under Tesser this term, lost at Siena yesterday as a result of a goalkeeping error from Fabian Carini.

Incredible but true. Cagliari chairman Massimo Cellino sacked his coach Attilio Tesser today to call back the man he sacked last June, Daniele Arrigoni.
“I couldn’t refuse the chance to get back to the Serie A, after my adventure with Torino ended even before it started,” said the new Cagliari boss.

“I can’t wait to start,” he added.

In his only Serie A match with the club played yesterday at Siena, Tesser lost 2-1.
