Portsmouth's miserable start to the new Premiership season has been handed a boost with the acquisition of Zvonimir Vukic.

After a summer of transformation at Fratton Park, several arrivals and departures have crossed paths on the South Coast - with midfielder Vukic becoming the latest new face.

Vukic, 26-years-old, has joined Alain Perrin's side for an undisclosed close fee from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Serbia & Montenegro international could add the attacking edge from midfield that Portsmouth have lacked this season, in a move that has delighted chairman Milan Mandaric.

''We have an attacking midfielder that is a very welcome addition to our squad,'' said Mandaric.

"We were looking for a middle man who chips in with goals and this player not only has a proven record of doing that he actually scored a lot in one season which is a little more than chipping in.

"That makes him a real bargain and his nose for goal will sharpen us up a little more."

Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie reiterated the words of his chairman, confident that the player - who once netted 22 goals in 30 matches for Partisan Belgrade - will prove a success in The Premiership.

"He is the type of player we have been looking for and has proved he knows where the goal is which will be an asset to us,'' said Storrie.

"We needed a midfield man with an eye for goal and in Zvonimir we have our man."

Meanwhile, Pompey striker Alexsandar Rodic has joined Turkish side Kayserispur on a season-long loan.
