OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City offered to become the home of the New Orleans Hornets this season following the devastation by hurricane Katrina.

Mayor Mick Cornett acknowledged Friday that a Louisiana site would be the obvious choice for the Hornets. But he suggested Oklahoma City's Ford Center, which does not have a major league tenant, as an option.

''We could be the temporary home for the team and we're available if that makes sense to the city of New Orleans,'' Cornett said.

Hornets general manager Allan Bristow said no decision had been made on where the team would play.

Baton Rouge, La., could be a possibility. The city is home to LSU's Pete Maravich Assembly Center, which seats more than 14,000.

HEAT and Spurs to Stage Hurricane Katrina Relief Game - Monday, October 10, 2005 at 7:30PM

MIAMI, September 8 – The Miami HEAT, the World Champion San Antonio Spurs, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association today announced their plans to stage an exhibition game between the Miami HEAT and the San Antonio Spurs to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The game will be played in Miami at the AmericanAirlines Arena on Monday, October 10, 2005 at 7:30PM, and will feature several up-close and personal experiences for fans. Prior to the game, players will greet fans at the door and following the contest, fans will have the opportunity to get some of their favorite player’s autographs. To generate the largest possible contribution, all tickets will be sold at the 2005-06 regular season individual game ticket prices, with HEAT Season Ticket Holders receiving the first opportunity to purchase tickets.

As the host team, the HEAT will donate all proceeds from the event to the efforts to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All revenue from ticket sales, concessions, parking and retail sales will be contributed. In addition, selected service vendors providing the employees who would normally work at the AmericanAirlines Arena on a game night will donate their service fee and all AmericanAirlines Arena employees will donate their time to facilitate the game. The contribution will be made to the American Red Cross and a to be determined charity on behalf of the HEAT, Spurs, the NBA and the NBPA. Representatives from both organizations will be on hand at the game to receive the contribution.

“For reasons that are close to home and knowing what our citizens have gone through, we as an organization will do just about anything to supply comfort, compassion, money and anything else we can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “The Spurs and the HEAT getting together to put on this exhibition to raise as much money as we can for the victims is an indication of what both organizations and the NBA is all about.”

“The Spurs players and staff are eager to do what we can to help in the relief efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina,” said Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford. “This game will give everyone associated with our organization the chance to contribute their time and talents in the name of raising money for those affected by this tragedy. We are honored to participate in this event and look forward to the opportunity to give back to NBA fans throughout the Gulf Coast region.”

HEAT Season Ticket Holders will have the opportunity to purchase their seat locations for the game starting Friday, September 9 though Wednesday, September 14. Tickets can be purchased online via HEAT.com or in person at the AmericanAirlines Arena Ticket Office during the hours of 10AM-5PM Monday through Friday. Following this exclusive purchase opportunity for HEAT Season Ticket Holders, tickets will be made available to the general public on Monday, September 19 at 10AM via all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, the AmericanAirlines Arena Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX. Ticketmaster has also agreed to waive all fees normally associated with the ticket purchase transaction.

This benefit game continues the many efforts being made by the NBA, its teams and its players to provide assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and would not be possible without Levy Restaurants, Ticketmaster, Franklin/Trade Graphics, American Medical Response, Superior Mobile X-Ray and the Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove for their generosity and the City of Miami for graciously donating the services of the Miami Police Department and the Fire/Rescue teams working the game. The HEAT also thanks the San Antonio Spurs organization for their participation in this important endeavor.
