Wenger fears Henry considering Arsenal future
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger fears his lack of summer signings could be weighing on the mind of captain Thierry Henry.
The Mirror says several Arsenal players were left extremely concerned that the transfer window shut without Wenger adding a major name to his Highbury squad.
Henry is privately concerned that the club may be left behind by Chelsea and Manchester United. He has two years left on his contract and Arsenal are keen to talk to him about a new deal but negotiations have not progressed and Spanish giants Barcelona are watching the situation closely.
Henry and several other players are believed to be fed-up and growing depressed at the lack of new faces which has led to even Wenger admitting recently that he is uncertain of his star man's long-term future.
Wenger said last week: "We are ready to negotiate a new long-term contract but I have the impression he is not. Thierry is my priority.
"He is the new captain, he is the one who must lead this club into the new stadium. I can't imagine him not being part of the project, but at the moment we have not sorted it." |
