Anderlecht have revealed that Sevilla made a late bid to sign talented defender Vincent Kompany.
Sevilla are flushed with cash and in need of a new defender following the sale of Sergio Ramos to Real Madrid on deadline day.
The Liga club swelled their ranks with the capture of Serbo-Montenegrin international defender Ivica Dragutinovic, but it is believed that Juande Ramos is looking for one more top-class stopper and the signs are suggesting Kompany had come under his radar.
"Even though we rejected a bid of $12.5 million (£8.4 million), Sevilla were still keen to go through," Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck said.
"They then offered €17 million (£11.5 million), but we could not do it to our fans after selling Aruna."
Sevilla have been given special dispensation to sign a player due to the late departure of Ramos, but Anderlecht can breathe easy as they can only bring in a player currently plying his trade in Spain.
