9 million ground is dumped
Newcastle's players have abandoned the club's £9 million training ground - to avoid getting crocked.
But Graeme Souness does expect to have injury victims Kieron Dyer and Emre back in action next weekend.
The Sunday Sun exclusively reported last week that United were modifying their training pitches amid players' fears of an injury epidemic.
And Souness last night revealed: "We are now training at the academy because we feel the pitches are too hard.
"Our injuries have shot up since we moved training facilities. My training is different to Bobby Robson's, yet the injuries are still the same."
Souness blames the ultra-efficient drainage of the playing surfaces at Newcastle's training HQ - which is just three years old - for the problem.
"Most of the pitches today have an element of plastic in them to make them hard-wearing and tough," he added.
"They have to be like that, but they don't take any water in. The water just goes straight through and runs away."
But Souness is cautiously optimistic that Dyer and Emre are recovered from their recurring hamstring problems - having both returned to training.
"The danger is if players keep coming back too early they get setbacks, but both Emre and Kieron have a good chance for next week's game at Blackburn," said the Scot.
"Kieron has a new regime now which involves stretching his back. Touch wood, I could have nearly a full squad available next week."
