Prem: Worst Eleven Of The Week

Jamie Obertelli selects eleven players from the Premiership who had games they’d rather forget at the weekend…
1 Kelvin Davis (Sunderland): The former Ipswich stopper has performed well so far in his first Premiership season but will want to forget his performance against the Champions. Davis’ error lead to Chelsea’s soft opening goal.
2 Nuno Valente (Everton): The Champions League winner was exposed time and time again by Portsmouth in his first game for Everton. Most of Pompey’s promising play came through Valente as his lack of fitness showed.
3 Pascal Cygan (Arsenal): A regular in this list last season, Cygan was guilty of yet another poor performance. The Arsenal defender was totally out of position against Maccarone and embarrassingly tried to play offside in vain. With Cygan in the starting eleven, opposition strikers know that Arsenal can be beaten.
4 Jean Alan Boumsong (Newcastle): The Frenchman does not look like the player that performed so well at Rangers. Souness spent 8 million pounds on him in a bid to tighten up his defence and still United continue to suffer at the back. Boumsong is undoubtedly a good player, but will need to improve his performances if he is to justify his price.
5 Mario Melchiot (Birmingham): The Dutchman has not yet performed up to his usual standard this season and was withdrawn from action after the first half. Melchiot struggled to cope with Thomas down his right side and had little impact going forward.
6 Ray Parlour (Middlesbrough): Was disappointing against his former club and looked off the pace. Parlour was unable to dictate play and relied on the excellent efforts of his team-mates to deal with Arsenal.
7 Amdy Faye (Newcastle): The Senegalese international does not look anything close to the player that had such an impact with Portsmouth. Faye looked uninterested as he strolled around the Newcastle midfield with little purpose.
8 Mathieu Flamini (Arsenal): The youngster has Arsene Wenger’s backing as the replacement to Vieira but he has so far failed to deliver. Flamini has plenty of drive and can cover every inch of grass but seems to lack the influence that will make him an Arsenal favourite.
9 Bret Emerton (Blackburn): Maybe the Australian had his thoughts on the Ashes rather than Bolton as he drifted about aimlessly at the Reebok. Emerton never got involved with his side's attacks and was largely disappointing throughout.
10 Marcus Bent (Everton): How Everton wish they could swap their Bent for Charlton’s Darren. Marcus has been disappointing this season so far and never looked like troubling Portsmouth during the game.
11 Matt Jansen (Blackburn): The former England hopeful never got the service and so had very little impact on the game.
