Gallas eyeing early title triumph for Chelsea
Cheeky Chelsea defender William Gallas has revealed the Blues are hoping to wrap up the Premiership title as quickly as possible - so they can then concentrate on European glory.
Jose Mourinho's side were crowned champions by 12 points last season and are already six points clear at the top after just seven games of this campaign.
One leading bookmaker is already paying out on them retaining their Premiership crown and Gallas also believes domestic success is a formality.
The 28-year-old told The Sun: 'If we can carry on like we've started this season we will practically be champions in January.
'If we can do that it will give us a good chance to concentrate more on the Champions League.
'Our aim is to win in Europe, especially after getting knocked out in the semi-finals two years in a row, because we know the Premiership will be ours sooner or later.'
Mourinho has increased the pressure on Liverpool by insisting anything other than a win would be a bad result for Rafael Benitez's side when the two clubs meet again tomorrow.
The goalless Champions League draw between the sides on Wednesday night was a result which Mourinho felt suited both parties but he warned a repeat would be bad news for Liverpool.
Mourinho said: 'In the Champions League we started the game with the same number of points and we had the same objective to go into the next round. So it was not a bad result for us and it was not a bad result for them.
'In the Premiership the points difference is a minimum eight points (the total assuming Liverpool win their two games in hand). So I think a draw for them on Sunday is a very bad result.'
Mourinho's only change may be to replace striker Didier Drogba with Hernan Crespo, although he insists he was happy with the Ivory Coast hitman's performance on Wednesday.
He added: 'In the last 15 minutes I played Crespo and Drogba together to try to use the domination of Drogba, because he played very well for me. I thought together with Crespo we might get the win.' |
