Gazza consortium bid to buy Kettering

A consortium involving former England star Paul Gascoigne has made an offer to buy Conference North club Kettering Town.

Poppies chairman Peter Mallinger has received an offer for his majority shareholding.


Gascoigne has not been involved in football since leaving his post as player-coach with Boston last October.

Imraan Ladak, head of the consortium, intends to take the club full-time if the deal goes through.

The Milton Keynes-based businessman said: 'We are looking forward to the challenge of taking over at Kettering.

'Paul, together with his contacts, will ensure there are exciting times ahead for the supporters - and the club will over the next few months become full-time, giving several players the opportunity to become professionals.

'Paul is very excited about the challenge ahead and will play an active role within the club.'

Ladak, who visited Kettering's Rockingham Road ground with Gascoigne over the weekend, also stressed manager Kevin Wilson's position will not be jeopardised by the takeover.

He said: 'We are keen to end speculation regarding the future of Kevin Wilson. I can confirm we will be looking to retain his services.'

Mallinger believes a deal could be concluded in the near future.

The chairman said: 'There is still work to be done, but we are confident a deal will be completed shortly.'
