Tim Sherwood in talks with Malaga with a takeover bid

Former England international Tim Sherwood is heading a consortium that wants to buy Malaga.

The former Tottenham midfielder has been in talks with the Spanish Primera Liga club and has asked for an audit to be done in order to evalue the current state of the finances.

Malaga are reported to be around €18million in debt and Sherwood is the public face of a group aiming to take control from the current owners, Group Zee.

Negotiations have been going on all summer between representatives of the English-based consortium and Malaga's general manager, Antonio Mendoza, and after, initial reservations, it has been confirmed that the club could be sold.

Sources suggest that Sherwood has explained that finding the money will be no problem, although a price for the purchase will only be known once the auditors deliver their report.

Details of the talks are being kept strictly secret with the futures of current president, Serafin Roldan, and Mendoza yet to be specified.

Malaga have survived in the Spanish top flight, despite being billed as annual favourites to be relegated, since winning promotion at the end of the 1998/1999 season.

The club have consistently finished in mid-table and even qualified for the Uefa Cup and have begun the current season with two wins, three defeats and a draw.

Toffee eyes extended loan

Brazilian midfielder Anderson Silva has admitted he would be more than happy to extend his loan at Malaga until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old signed a contract with Everton in the summer, but will not be eligible to play for The Toffees until the start of next term by which time he should have secured Spanish citizenship.

He joined Malaga on loan until December 31, 2005 and has thus far made four appearances for the Andalusian outfit.

However, the Primera side are now looking into extending that for a further six months after losing Uruguayan midfielder Marcelo Romero to a serious knee injury.

Silva concedes he would have no problem prolonging his stay at La Rosaleda.

"I would be delighted to continue here, but that depends on them (Malaga)," the former Racing Santander star stated.

Meanwhile, Silva has shaken off a thigh injury and looks set to keep his starting place in Antonio Tapia's first XI for this weekend's game with Valencia.
