Hleb out for two months
LONDON COLNEY, England, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Arsenal's injury woes increased on Friday when manager Arsene Wenger revealed that midfielder Alexander Hleb needed knee surgery and would be out for up to eight weeks.
'Hleb will be out for six to eight weeks and he is due to have surgery on his knee today,' Wenger told reporters. Hleb was injured while on World Cup qualifying duty for Belarus against Scotland last weekend.
'I really can't remember having as many injuries as this but it is not a crisis. We have enough good players in the team to win the game,' he said referring to Arsenal's Premiership match at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
'The bench will be quite young,' he added.
French midfielder Mathieu Flamini is expected to play in midfield with Brazil's Gilberto missing the game as he only returned on Friday from World Cup qualifying duty in South America.
England defenders Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell and France striker Thierry Henry are also on Arsenal's injury list.
• Meanwhile, Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole, currently sidelined with a stress fracture of his foot, hopes to be back in action in eight weeks.
The England defender sustained an injury to right his foot which forced him out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland.
'The operation went well and I hope to be back in around eight weeks' time - I have been told that that is a realistic time to aim for,' Cole told www.stellargroup.co.uk.
'It was really disappointing not to be able to play in our last two World Cup qualifiers but the boys did brilliantly and I was at home cheering them on.
'It has been a long, hard campaign, but we all stuck together and on the whole did pretty well.
'Now I am just focusing on getting the foot strong again and regaining my fitness as soon as possible, the team has a few injuries and it is going to be a testing time for us, so the sooner I am back in action, the better.'
