FOWLER MUST WAIT - PEARCE
Stuart Pearce has warned Robbie Fowler he will have to be patient if the veteran striker wants his first-team place back at Manchester City.
The former England forward made his long-awaited return from a major back injury on Wednesday night, scoring twice in the Blues reserves' 9-0 hammering of Bury.
Fowler played 45 minutes under Pearce's watchful gaze and was back in training at City's Carrington complex this morning as he pushes his way towards full fitness.
Saturday's trip to Arsenal will come far too early for the 30-year-old, who has scored 24 goals in 88 appearances since his ?million move from Leeds in January 2003.
And, with Andy Cole and Darius Vassell forming a productive partnership during the early weeks of the campaign which has helped lift City to fourth spot in the Premiership, Fowler may be forced to wait for his chance.
"I am pleased Robbie came through yesterday and the ball is in his court now," said Pearce.
"He has to prove his fitness and show he is good enough to break into the first team again.
"In management, you find out quite quickly that when you think you have a settled side, all of a sudden injuries come and people who were on the outside are in and playing.
"Robbie knows he has to work hard in training, play in reserve games when he is asked to and be around the first-team squad. I am sure his chance will come."
