Arsenal close in on Mexico youngster

Carlos Vela is training this week with Arsenal with a view to a permanent move to the Gunners, according to reports.

The highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder was the leading scorer in the Mexico team that won the World Under-17 Championship earlier this month and, according to The Daily Telegraph, 'has interested the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, for some time.'

The Frenchman is expected to pursue a £2.5m bid for the Guadalajara youngster if he impresses during his week in London.

Arsenal will not be signing Mexican prodigy Carlos Vela — yet.

The 17-year-old from Guadalajara has been training with Arsne Wenger’s side recently but the manager can not make a move for the attacking midfielder who played a pivotal role in his country’s victory in the Under-17 World Championship.

“He is one of the boys we have had in training to have a look at,” said the Frenchman.

“But after that he will go back to his club and, in one or two years, we will decide. He cannot come before the age of 18 so he is not for now.”
