Newcastle's Kieron Dyer is out and full-back Stephen Carr will also be missing after hernia surgery.

Lee Bowyer has had an injection in his injured knee but is not fit yet while Albert Luque and Craig Moore are out.

Birmingham are without Nicky Butt (ineligible) and the injured David Dunn, Stephen Clemence, Julian Gray, Damien Johnson and Mehdi Nafti.

Muzzy Izzet and Stan Lazaridis have an outside chance but Mario Melchiot is out and Alex Bruce is ineligible.

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has been refused special dispensation to play his son Alex against Newcastle.

The Blues are missing 10 players ahead of Saturday's game and recalled Alex, 21, from a loan spell at Tranmere.

But the Premier league ruled that the player is ineligible to represent the Blues after returning a month early.

It is yet another setback for depleted Birmingham, who are deep in relegation trouble - just one point above bottom club Sunderland.
