Real Madrid aim to beat Man Utd for Hitzfeld, Ballack

Manchester United are set to be beaten by Real Madrid for dream German pairing Ottmar Hitzfeld and Michael Ballack.

The Mirror says United will move for Hitzfeld if Sir Alex Ferguson, on a one-year rolling contract, cannot deliver the Premiership or Champions League titles this season.

But Real Madrid, in crisis following their humiliating 3-0 weekend defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona, are understood to want Hitzfeld to take over from under-fire boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

Sources in Germany believe Hitzfeld would choose Madrid over Manchester and Bayern Munich midfielder Ballack is waiting to see where his former boss goes before following him there.
