Goalkeeper Keller wins second U.S. player of year award

LONDON, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Goalkeeper Kasey Keller has been voted U.S. Player of the Year for the second time.

Keller, who joined Germany's Borussia Moenchengladbach last January after three and a half years with Tottenham Hotspur, also won the award in 1999.

Striker Landon Donovan was second and midfielder DaMarcus Beasley third.

Keller had an outstanding year for the U.S., keeping eight clean sheets in 14 appearances and helping them finish top of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying zone.

The 36-year-old is only the third player to win the award more than once after Donovan (2004, 2003, 2002) and Eric Wynalda (1996 and 1992).

The Honda award, regarded as the most prestigious individual prize in American soccer, has been presented since 1991 to the best player in the U.S. national team after voting by American media.
