Solskjaer makes 45-minute comeback
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made his long-awaited comeback for Manchester United on Monday night.
The 32-year-old striker played the first 45 minutes against Liverpool at Hyde United's ground.
About 3,000 fans turned out and welcomed back the Norwegian after a 19-month absence.
He only returned to training with the first team last week after prolonged knee surgery.
Solskjaer's last appearance came in May last year when he played six minutes of the FA Cup final victory against Millwall.
He was given a warm reception when he came out for the warm-up and ran freely in the first half in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
He had a couple of efforts that were scrambled away and also made one or two good challenges in a display which will have heartened manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Solskjaer was delighted to get a game under his belt as he said: 'It's a great feeling to be playing again after such a long time.
'It's been a long time as well since I've played in front of a crowd and found four or five defenders around me.
'It has been a frustrating time for me, but I always knew I could get back to playing at this level.
'It is amazing to get so much support. The plan was to play for 45 minutes, but I could have gone on for longer.'
The official attendance was given as 2,738.
Sub Neil Mellor marked his return after knee surgery to find the target in Liverpool's 2-0 win with Ramon Castilla netting the other goal.
However, there was bad news for the Merseysiders with Darren Potter carried off with a suspected hip injury. |
