La Liga Best XI

Abhishek Thakur selects Los Once Magnificos, the best eleven performers in La Liga this weekend. It's a South American special this week, with Riquelme, Ronaldinho, and Robinho all getting in on the act (hopefully without stepping on each others' toes).
Goalkeeper
1 Aranzubaia (Athletic Bilbao) Put in one of his best performances to keep out whatever came past his defense, helping the struggling Basques snatch a point from a rampant Valencia.
Defenders
2 Salgado (Real Madrid) Was back, close to his best after a couple of average outings of late. He can be so physical and tough to mess with when at his angry best, and is always willing to help up front.
3 Luis Prieto (Athletic Bilbao) The reason why all of Aimar’s magic eventually came to nothing. Every time the Argentine skipped and danced past others, there was Prieto to win it back or smother it away.
4 Edmilson (Barcelona) Another great midfield performance, especially with Puyol hobbling for most of the match, and Gabri and Iniesta struggling to deputize for Xavi and Deco.
5 David (Sevilla) Kept Messi on a tight leash, keeping Barcelona quiet down the right, and Pernia outside the best eleven for a change.
Defensive Midfielders
6 Sergio Ramos (Real Mardid) A pivotal midfield performance, this time without Pablo Garcia’s support. The full-back cum centre-half is beginning to make quite a name for himself in midfield.
7 Baraja (Valencia): A typical no nonsense performance, linking up Angulo, Aimar, Vincente and Villa with the defensive half of the team. Must have helped Luis Aragonese recover in part, from the shock of losing Xavi.
Attacking Midfielders
8 Riquelme (Villarreal): Superb bit of skill to create the first goal out of absolutely nothing, and pure genius for the third - a screamer from outside the area that angled into the corner. Wonder where this Riquelme was last week against Barcelona!
9 Robinho (Real Madrid) Almost ironic that his Best performance in a Real shirt came just after the exit of his biggest backer. Gave some indications of what the fuss was all about in the summer.
10 Ronaldinho (Barcelona) Sheer magic to score the winner for Barcelona. Worked hard between moments of genuis, on a night when Barcelona weren’t at their best in midfield.
Forwards
11 Guayre (Villarreal): Continued where he left off midweek, and scored two poachers’ specials to snuff out a spirited Real Sociedad challenge. Combined well with Riquelme and Forlan, to give Pellegrini a selection headache, with Figueroa and Jose Mari also in line. That is, if he doesn’t still want away from El Madrigal?
Those Who Came Close
Aimar (Valencia): The most spectacular performance of the week-end, continuously scurring past defenders, only to be ineffective when it came to the final ball. The best Aimar I have seen in two years, and yet the worst when it mattered! For all his magic, he struggled to get past Luis Prieto.
Casillas (Real Madrid) For more than a couple of great saves, as is his wont.
Zidane (Real Madrid) The French legend showed signs that he could be ready to roll back the years. If only he can give Real one great season!
Valeron (Deportivo) For a super midfield performance. More good news for Luis Aragonese!
