Martins Extends Inter Stay

The Nigerian player has renewed his contract up till 2010.
Obafemi Martins will remain with Inter till the 30th of June 2010, as the player signed a new contract with the Nerazzurri on Monday at the club’s headquarters.

Martins was born at Lagos in Nigeria on the 28th of October 1984 and debuted with the Inter shirt at the age of 18 years during a Coppa Italia match between Bari and Inter on the 4th of December 2002.

The young striker has already scored 23 goals from 73 matches in Serie A, with a total number of 42 goals from 112 games in all official competitions.

The Portuguese player still believes in the possibility of winning the Scudetto.
Luis Figo spoke about Inter’s chances of winning the league title.

“We would be crazy not to believe. There are still 60 points up for grabs. We must continue winning as much as possible and hope that Juve does not do the same. They will not be able to go at full speed always."

The former Real Madrid star commented his first few months in Italy.

“For me this is an emotion to wear this shirt; in my first match as an Inter player I felt it a lot because Moratti had explained to me before what it means to wear it. The league is still open, and we believe.”

Burdisso rejects January sale Wednesday 21 December, 2005

Nicolas Burdisso has said that he does not intend on moving away from Inter in January. "I want to win things with this team," he stated.

Burdisso has had a tough time of it since joining from Boca Juniors in 2004, with his appearances limited to a meagre 11 largely due to his daughter being diagnosed with leukaemia.

The Argentine defender, though, is in high spirits with his little girl having made great strides to recover from the disease.

Now the 24-year-old is hoping to make a professional recovery of his own, by winning his place back in the Inter side and repaying the understanding they have shown in granting him a leave of absence during his family crisis.

"This club is a big family," he said. "I would like to thank Inter who have stood by me throughout a difficult period.

"Now, though, my daughter is well and I am happy," he added. "She is in Italy with me now – it’s very important to have your family close by."

The South American has been linked with a loan move away from the San Siro in January, most notably to Fiorentina, where a swap deal with Valeri Bojinov had been mooted, but Burdisso is determined to win his Inter place back.

"I am a central defender," he said. "They bought me to play there but at the moment it’s just important that I play, so I’ll even go to right-back or left-back if need be."

Burdisso will be hoping to get a game tonight against Empoli as Ivan Cordoba is suspended and Marco Materazzi is still injured.

If he does take his chance he is hoping to make a long-awaited contribution to the side. "I want to play here because I want to win things with this team," he concluded.
