After missing out on Nemanja Vidic, Fiorentina are reportedly considering a January move for Inter defender Marco Materazzi.
Despite indicating that he would rather play football in Italy than in England, Vidic chose to snub the Viola and signed for Manchester United, leaving Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino to look elsewhere.
Although they previously insisted they would take the case to FIFA after believing that Vidic was already their player, Fiorentina have now decided against taking any action.
“AC Fiorentina consider it is worth giving up trying to obtain the services of the footballer Nemanja Vidic after the recent events,” read a statement on the club's official website.
“Considering the unreliable nature, and the evident unreliability of the player, we have decided not present anything to FIFA to safeguard our interests.”
Corvino previously spoke to Materazzi last summer, but after Walter Samuel picked up a ban Inter could not afford to let the 32-year-old stopper leave.
Now however, the move seems to benefit both sides. Materazzi is currently sidelined with a knee injury and will be out of action until February.
In the meantime Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba have formed a solid partnership at the heart of the Inter defence. The ex-Everton man would be unlikely to feature in Roberto Mancini’s first team plans.
While Materazzi is under contract until 2009, he could arrive in Florence in January in a loan deal with the possibility of a more permanent agreement in June.
Fiorentina have been the surprise package of the season so far but the right reinforcements in January will be crucial if Cesare Prandelli’s men are to continue their quest for a Champions League place.
If the move for Materazzi proves unsuccessful, Cristian Zaccardo of Palermo and Udinese’s young Brazilian defender Dias Felipe head the list of alternatives. |

不過不妨買番一兩個年青後防防下身...又可以訓練番新一輩既italian ~
