Redknapp wants to sign Spurs pair

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has told BBC Radio Solent the club have made bids for two Tottenham players, thought to be Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot.

"Chief executive Peter Storrie has been dealing with it," said Redknapp, who is hoping to tie up a deal by this week.

"We're close to an agreement with the club, then we can talk to the players."

Portsmouth have also spoken to the agent of Aston Villa's out-of-favour midfielder Lee Hendrie, who says he is "disheartened" at the Midlands club.

Hendrie has 18 months left on his current contract and is desperate to be playing regular first-team football.

"For me to have only started three games this season is soul-destroying. I don't know what is going to happen," said Hendrie.

"I saw the stories that Portsmouth were looking to come in for me and, personally, I don't know what is going on although I know my agent has spoken to them."

Portsmouth have also been linked with Spurs centre-back Anthony Gardner and midfielders Pedro Mendes and Michael Brown since the transfer window re-opened.

But it is thought he is keen on ex-Fulham midfielder Davis, and the French defender Pamarot, who spent most of the 1999-2000 season on loan to Portsmouth from Nice.

A former Spurs player, 29-year-old striker Steffen Iversen, is training with Portsmouth and could sign for the club as a free agent.

"He is down here and has done very well. I agreed to look at him and that is where it is now, he has come in and has got himself in great shape," Redknapp said.

Iversen has recently left Norwegian club Valerenga.

Sander Westerveld has vowed to play a part in Portsmouth's new regime under new co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper is second choice behind Jamie Ashdown but is determined to take his chance now Ashdown is sidelined.

"I want to stay at Pompey and fight for my place," said Westerveld.

"This is an exciting club to be at. The team spirit is fantastic and I hope to be part of the club's future under Milan Mandaric and Gaydamak."

Westerveld wanted to assure Pompey fans of his commitment to the club after he was quoted in Sunday's News of the World newspaper criticising the club, the facilities and his team-mates.

But the Dutchman claims he was "misquoted and misrepresented" and wants to set the record straight.

"I would never, never say anything which is considered to be disrespectful to Portsmouth," said Westerveld.

"I want to tell you that I am very happy at Pompey and am enjoying the current spell of being first-choice keeper.

"I am angry that such reports could affect my relationship with the chairman, co-owner, fans, my team-mates, manager and everyone else at the club."

The former Liverpool stopper joined Portsmouth last July as a free agent from Real Sociedad following a loan spell at Real Mallorca.

He began this season as first-choice, but lost his place after a series of high-profile blunders.

Pompey sign Spurs trio

Portsmouth have snapped up Tottenham trio Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot.
All three are in line to play against Everton at the weekend after Harry Redknapp's remarkable raid on White Hart Lane.

Mendes and Davis are already training with their new club and Pamarot is on his way to the South Coast to link up with the Fratton Park club.

Redknapp refused to confirm the moves will cost around £7 million but it certainly represents a substantial investment for Portsmouth's new board.

Spurs seem to be clearing the decks ahead of an incoming move on their own, with Vincenzo Iaquinta one of the players believed to be on Martin Jol's hit-list.

Mendes, Davis and Pamarot have not been more than squad players at Spurs this season but Jol had stressed former Fulham midfielder Davis, in particular, was not for sale.

Mendes's Tottenham career will be best remembered for his goal that never was against Manchester United last year when Roy Carroll dropped his long-range effort over the line but referee Mark Clattenburg waved play on.

Redknapp, meanwhile, has denied making an approach to Norwich City for England squad member Robert Green.
