Agent: United Interested In Diarra



United are interested in Lyon's Mali international midfielder Mahamadou Diarra, according to the player's agent.
Diarra, who struck up a formidable partnership with Michael Essien before the Ghanaian's move to Chelsea, is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.
His representative Frederic Guerra told Sky Sports News: "I think Mahamadou is the best defensive midfielder in Europe. As a consequence, he will soon play for one of the best clubs in Europe.

Guerra revealed that United had enquired about the player last summer, and sees Old Trafford as a possible destination for his client - but also predicts interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

"We know that Chelsea are looking for a player to replace Claude Makelele, who is getting older," he said. "We also know that Manchester United are looking for a defensive midfielder to replace Roy Keane.

"Besides, Real Madrid haven't got a defensive midfielder. It would be logical for Mahamadou to play for one of those teams. Last summer, there has been contact with Manchester United."

The 24-year-old international covets a move to the Premiership above any other league, according to Guerra.

"The Premiership is, by far, his favourite league. I can't confirm that he will play there next year, but he would like to. He also likes the Spanish league, in second position. Then, in third position, he likes the Calcio (Serie A)."

Reports in Italy's Gazetta Dello Sport also tip United to move for AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

With David Gill recently revealing that the club are in the market for 'one or two big signings' this summer and an obvious need for midfield reinforcements, such speculation is only going to increase over the coming months.

Gattuso The New Keano

United have identified AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso as the man they want to replace for Roy Keane. Chief executive David Gill has been spotted in Milan several times in recent weeks, increasing the belief that a formal move for the player is now likely. 28-year-old Gattuso will be among the players Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is happy to let go. If a bid does come, Gill and United will be told that Gattuso is available if the Old Trafford club can match Milan's £5million valuation.

Milan Refute Gattuso Rumours



AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has dismissed reports that Rossoneri midfielder Gennaro Gattuso could be on his way to Old Trafford in the summer.

United chief executive David Gill confirmed last week that United would make "one or two very big signings in the summer" but also intimated that the players United are tracking are involved in the Champions League.

Sir Alex will have to wait until the summer to attract the player he covets as a long-term successor to Roy Keane, who left the club last year.

But Milan's Galliani is not impressed by the rumours of interest in the club's combative midfielder.

"Gattuso at Manchester? It's pure market fantasy," he said.

Gattuso's experience and ability certainly fits the bill for the player United are so desperately missing in midfield.

The Italian international certainly possesses the ability the Reds require in midfield, but the only disparity with recent signings for the club is the player's age. Gattuso turned 28 earlier this month.
