Middlesbrough are on the verge of signing Barcelona utility player Gabri from under the noses of West Ham, skysports.com has learned.
Negotiations between the player's representatives and the Premiership club are close to completion after Barca stated recently that they were not going to renew his contract at Camp Nou.
The English club are also talking with Barcelona over whether they can sign Gabri now, or whether he will sign a pre-contract and move to The Riverside on a free transfer at the end of the season.
With Gabri able to play at right back and in midfield, Boro see him as a crucial addition to the squad as they battle to move away from a relegation scrap.
West Ham boss Alan Pardew was reported to have watched Gabri in the recent Copa del Rey game against Zamora and was impressed by what he saw, but is set to lose out.
Sources close to Gabri have revealed that he is very tempted by what Middlesbrough have offered and a deal is set to be announced before the weekend. |
