Milan have no plans to try and replace Carlo Ancelotti with Frank Rijkaard.
Ancelotti has done a sterling job at the San Siro since taking the reins in the 2001/2002 season, but talk in recent months has centred on him being ushered on in favour of Rijkaard, despite the latter being in charge of Barcelona.
Milan have continually stressed that they have no plans to replace Ancelotti and vice president Adriano Galliani has reaffirmed he will remain at the helm next term.
"Carlo Ancelotti will stay at Milan for the season 2006-2007," said Galliani. "I've also told it to the team.
"We continue with this Milan because we want to earn big things."
Club supremo and Italian Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi also dismissed rumours of Ancelotti's departure.
"Ancelotti stays at Milan," Berlusconi told Rai tv. "Rumours that are circulating about him are absolutely groundless."
Rijkaard earned hero status during five years as a player at Milan and he could be viewed as a long-term coaching target, but Ancelotti appears safe for the present time. |
