MORATTI: "CAMBIASSO DID VERY WELL"
Sunday, 22 January 2006 00:36:15
MILAN - "We played well in a difficult match on a difficult pitch. Tactically Palermo played very well and tried to keep us in check in an intelligent manner, and Inter certainly had to work hard to win. In the end though, we won easily," said Inter patron Massimo Moratti on Inter Channel after Saturday evening's 3-0 home victory over Palermo.
"There were many positive aspects today, and I'm referring to the team's game, the character they had on the pitch and our talents that always come through in every match. And on this subject I would like to underline the performance of Mr Cambiasso, who for me is very, very good. We bought him because he was good and he has showed he is very good. I can say this because I know he won't get puffed up about it and he's a lad with sense of duty. Actually, I think this will make him even more aware of his responsibilities."
Moratti mentioned the performance of Kily Gonzlez, adding: "I'm impressed with how well he has played after being out for so long. I also thought he played well against Treviso on Wednesday. He showed ability and determination; I'm happy for him and Inter because his contribution will be useful to Inter."
On the playing surface at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, Moratti said: "I don't anything can be done. We have been talking about it for some time, but this year the players are slipping a lot, the heavier ones in particular find it hard-going. Do I want to build a stadium just for Inter? It's the first thing that came to mind when you were asking the question, but it would be a shame because we have a really nice stadium."
The Nerazzurri supremo also spoke about the performances of strike partners Adriano and Cruz: " Adriano really did play well today, and I say this because I'm very critical and I always expect a lot. I'm happy for him, he showed he has improved a lot and playing did him good. He played well today and was useful, he was the player we were all expecting. As for Cruz, the only thing he didn't do was score, seeing as now he will have to score every time... Jokes aside, he plays well and intelligently, he creates spaces and helps his strike partner move well. Cruz and Adriano have a big responsibility at the moment because they are the only two strikers we have. They are doing very well."
Moratti concluded with a few words about the transfer market: "Are we making any assessments? Yes, and they could be made on the basis of today's match in which we showed we have a good squad. We don't feel obliged to make any last-minute decisions. But we will see."
