Mirko Vucinic’s much-publicised desire to join Roma looks set to be scuppered by Inter, according to Lecce sporting director Carlo Regalia.
As reported by Football Italia recently, Vucinic, who has scored five goals this season, is desperate to team up with his footballing idol and Italy international Francesco Totti at Roma in the summer.
However, Regalia has revealed that discussions have already taken pace with Inter to take the Serbia & Montenegro international to the San Siro in June.
"I have heard that Roma like him," explained the Salentini director. "But we had a discussion with Inter some time ago and Vucinic will cost just over £10m."
Inter have been seeking a striker for a long time now and their need has been all the greater since having to forego attacking options due to African Cup of Nations call-ups and injuries.
The 22-year-old is a player who has attracted the interest of the Nerazzurri since last summer and now it seems that they will make their move for him at the end of the campaign.
Vucinic’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, was spotted at Roma’s training ground a week ago and has since issued a public come-and-get-me plea on behalf of his client.
But it now seems that if the Giallorossi want their man then they will have to pay the sort of money that they currently do not have at their disposal, regardless of the transfer embargo which is preventing them from signing players until the end of the season.
In order to outbid Inter, the Giallorossi will have to offload personnel and with Coach Luciano Spalletti declaring recently that the players currently attracting interest – such as Amantino Mancini, Philippe Mexes and Daniele De Rossi - are essential to his plans for the future, Vucinic looks increasingly likely to move to Inter.
