Panathinaikos have officially announced via their website that they have released Flavio Conceicao, making him a free agent as both sides agreed to end their cooperation following the Brazilian star’s poor performances throughout the season.
Up to now it has been a disastrous season for the Greek outfit, who are already out of the Champions League and lying in third spot of the First Division, twelve points behind top-placed Olympiacos and nine behind second-placed AEK.
That was totally unacceptable to the faithful and the officials of Pana, and Flavio Conceicao, who arrived last summer as the “new-captain-to-be,” not only failed to prove his abilities but also performed poorly in his twenty-one appearances and was widely regarded to be one of the weaker parts of the squad.
Thus soon there was little patience, and after Panathinaikos’ last defeat by Olympiacos the club were looking for a way to set the 32-year-old Brazilian free, so as to avoid their costly contract worth 1.6 million euros per year.
The parting of the ways was completed on Wednesday, and now Conceicao will probably head to Russia where Lokomotiv Moscow appear ready to make him a 1.9 million euros contract offer, while Atletico Paranaense in Brazil and Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia are still interested in adding him to their squads.
