Souness: I'm not a quitter
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness will not walk away from St James' Park despite the latest shambolic defeat in a season of disaster.
The injury-hit Magpies' 3-0 loss at Manchester City leaves them sixth from bottom of the Premiership and just six points clear of the drop zone.
It brings a club with Champions League ambitions before the campaign began perilously close to catastrophe and they provided their loyal fans with only a single shot to cheer in a match which offered them a chance to take advantage of the unrest created by Joey Barton's transfer request.
Souness has already had one make-or-break meeting with Newcastle chairman Freddie Shepherd and any decision to sack the Scot would cost the north-east giants around 5million in compensation.
But Souness reckons he is still the man to turn the situation around, and he has no intention of leaving.
"I am not a quitter and I will not quit," he said.
"It is a fact we are in a relegation scrap. I cannot deny that. But this is not a time to feel sorry for ourselves, it is a time to show what we are made of.
"We have picked up one point from our last six games and I cannot defend that. It is not good enough.
"But my situation has not changed. I am not happy and we are all aware our futures are hanging on the need to get things right."
