Big Sam holds England interest
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed that he would love to be considered for the England job but The Football Association must move quickly as he is planning to retire in five years.
Allardyce has emerged as the bookies' favourite to replace Graeme Souness at Newcastle but it is the England job that could tempt him from The Reebok.
The Bolton chief has emerged as one of the top bosses in England having guided Bolton to previously unscaled heights, including qualification for this season's Uefa Cup.
With The FA having started their search for a new boss after agreeing with Sven Goran Eriksson to end his tenure after the World Cup, the name of Allardyce has frequently cropped up in relation to the post.
In an interview with Discovery Real Time's Total Fishing, Allardyce has conceded he is flattered to be linked with England's top job, whilst also confirming he is already considering his retirement.
''I'd like to give myself five more years. I'm 50 now,'' said Allardyce.
''I promised the family and the wife in particular that 55 might be the best time for me to get out of the rat race and see more things in my life.
''Well that (the England job) would obviously be something you'd love to be considered for and then you'd have to assess how long you wanted to go on at that point.
''I mean how successful you are as England manager is, it can be a long stay but it can be a very short stay!''
