Just as when the sides met in Week 4, Carlo Ancelotti's men are under pressure to take maximum points, but to do so they will need to see off a Lazio side that are unbeaten in seven games and have performed excellently at home.
It has been a frustrating week for the Rossoneri. A 1-1 draw with Sampdoria snuffed out the dying embers of Milan's Scudetto bid and the misery was compounded by a shock 3-0 Coppa Italia defeat at the hands of Palermo, leaving Ancelotti to rue his side's general malaise but especially the poor form of goalkeeper Dida.
By contrast, Lazio are enjoying unexpected success in a season that had seemed destined for consolidation under Delio Rossi. An albeit unconvincing win over Treviso last weekend lifted the Biancocelesti to eighth place and Rossi must feel that a UEFA Cup spot is not out of the question. Undoubtedly Rossi's men are full of confidence and will fancy their chances of extending their unbeaten home record against a side that seem to be running out of gas.
Rossi's injury problems are starting to clear with the imminent return of Valon Behrami and Christian Manfredini, but Fabio Firmani, Angelo Peruzzi and Simone Inzaghi are all sidelined. Cesar has now joined Inter and Sebastiano Siviglia is suspended. Veteran goalkeeper Marco Ballotta proved his worth in the victory over Treviso and remains the only match-fit goalkeeper. Paolo Maldini and Massimo Ambrosini are out of contention for Milan as they aim to repeat their 2-0 victory of Week 4.
