Roberto Donadoni is no longer the Livorno boss after he handed in his resignation on Tuesday.
The tactician took the step after the surprising criticism he received from President Aldo Spinelli on Italian television last night.
“It’s the hardest and most painful decision I’ve had to make in my entire career,” said Donadoni.
“But I was left with no option after what happened on Monday night when the President criticised my work live on TV.
“If the intention was for me to hand in my resignation, here it is,” he concluded.
Despite leading the side to an amazing sixth-placed in the table, Spinelli cast doubt on the future of the former Milan and Italy winger.
Donadoni didn’t leave for Ascoli this morning with the rest of the squad ahead of the Serie A match on Wednesday night.
Instead, the Coach held crisis talks with the Amaranto before deciding to bring his second spell on the Tuscan bench to an end.
Assistant Coach Mario Bortolazzi is expected to take immediate charge of the side, even if Carlo Mazzone could be installed for Sunday’s game against Fiorentina. |
