Koeman: Reds and Blues will fall
Ronald Koeman expects his Benfica side to knock Liverpool out of the UEFA Champions League and also feels Barcelona will prove too strong for Chelsea this year.
Koeman's Benfica did for Manchester United in the group stages of the competition with a 2-1 defeat at the Estadio da Luz eliminating Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
With that in mind, the Dutchman is confident his troops can produce a similar level of performance and shock the reigning European champions.
"Why not? We eliminated Manchester United and so we can do the same to Liverpool," he told Sport.
"The bad thing is that we have to play the second leg at Anfield because it's a very imposing stadium."
Indeed, the former Barcelona star is predicting more misery for England's representatives as he is convinced his former club will gain revenge on Chelsea for their exit last year, a defeat that still rankles at Camp Nou.
"In the same way that I'm convinced Benfica can beat Liverpool, I can say I think Barcelona will see off Chelsea," he continued.
"There are two things that lead me to believe that the azulgranas (Barca) are superior.
"Above all, Barca have learned from what happened last year at Stamford Bridge. I am sure they will not be surprised in the same way again.
"Well, I would bet one of my hands that they will not concede three or four goals.
"Secondly, because the return leg will be at Camp Nou and whatever the score the crowd will lift the players.
"Barca have players who perform in the big matches and who have a thirst for revenge that will make them even stronger."
