UNITED'S dressing room secrets... Rio gives a rare insight:
EDWIN VAN DER SAR: A fantastic goalkeeper with great experience. He has been
around the block and won the European Cup. He has been a great acquisition
for us. He is someone who takes a lot of pride in his clothes. He dresses
quite smart and the lads have a go at him about his shoes.
GARY NEVILLE: A fantastic trainer and everything he does revolves around
football. On the training ground you always hear his voice shouting or
moaning, usually moaning! But if things need to be done he is the one up
front getting things sorted for everyone.
He is a great consistent player and has been England's best right-back for
the last decade at least.
He makes me laugh. He's a funny geezer but I don't think he knows it.
WES BROWN: Wes is Mr Calm. He never raises his voice and never gets
flustered. He helped me settle in when I came to United and we have become
great mates.
He's been very unfortunate with injuries and had it not been for them then I
think he would have had a load of England caps. He's a strong person because
to have so many bad injuries as he's had you have to be a big character. It
would have broken lesser people.
MIKAEL SILVESTRE: A great trainer. Always stretching. He does yoga as well.
He's a quality player and I just don't know how he doesn't get into the
French squad these days.
He's a quite fella and you don't really hear him much around the place.
Everything is prim and proper with him. His clothes always look clean and
smart. His car is always polished and spotless.
PATRICE EVRA: New to the squad in January but he's a good lad. He comes and
plays computer football with us. Darren Fletcher and me are the kings of
PlayStation Pro-Evolution Soccer and we had to batter him and Louis Saha. He
did well the first game and we let him win that because he was new. But then
we showed him what we are about and put him in his place.
NEMANJA VIDIC: He is eager to learn and do well. He is strong in the tackle
and a solid defender. He will be great. Was a major part of Serbia and
Montenegro's World Cup qualifying defence that conceded just one goal in
their ten group matches. Can easily see why when you see him play.
He's a great lad. He's happy to be here and eager to please.
JOHN O'SHEA: Long Man has been unfortunate with a few injuries. But his
latest one with broken ribs is one that you can't get treatment on and so he
got a trip away to Dubai instead! I wonder if he planned that?
DARREN FLETCHER: He is Mr Scruffy. What a scruff pot. He doesn't care what
he wears. The first thing that comes to hand when he opens his wardrobe
he'll stick it on. He could wear the best suit in the world but he'd look
scruffy.
Darren is going to be a Man United player for many, many years. He will grow
into being one of our main players. Roy Keane going has allowed him to
express himself more.
He's a player's player. The lads appreciate him but a lot of the work and
things he does go unnoticed by fans and pundits. But in the long run
everyone will see what he is made of.
WAYNE ROONEY: Fantastic footballer. He is a real Man United player. Can do
everything with a football. He just loves the game. He is the greediest
person in the world before a training session. You can't get a ball off him.
On the sly he loves his clothes. He pretends he's not bothered but when he
gets something new he hangs around the training ground so people will notice
him.
The hooped jumper he wore when he signed for United was one of the worst I
have ever seen but to be honest I think he made a lot of effort to get that
jumper and that says a lot about him!
RUUD VAN NISTELROOY: Put the ball in the box and the ball falls to Ruud. We
were laughing after his goal at Portsmouth when Ryan Giggs' shot hit the bar
and rebounded because it could have only have fallen for Ruud.
He wants to score goals and he does it better than anyone else. If we won
4-0 and he didn't score then he'd be disappointed. He's not afraid to show
that and that's why he's one of the best around.
He's a really nice guy and any new player who arrives he's one of the first
to talk to them and get them integrated into the squad.
LOUIS SAHA: Ask any defender in the Premiership and they will tell you they
don't like playing against Louis. That speaks volumes for his ability. He
has been unfortunate with injuries but now they have cleared up he will go
on to be a quality player for United.
JI-SUNG PARK: When he is not in the team you realise what a fantastic player
he is. He runs more on a football pitch than anyone I have ever known in my
life. He runs a frightening amount in matches.
His brain is very sharp and is a great signing for us this year.
We call him G-Unit after the rap band. He laughs whenever I say anything to
him because I don't think he understands me at all so he tries to get away
from me!
CRISTIANO RONALDO: We are lucky to have two of the best young footballers in
the world in him and Wayne Rooney. His goals against Fulham and Portsmouth
show what he can be. He will definitely grow into a player who will score 15
goals a season and when he does that he'll be regarded as one of the best in
the world.
His physical attributes and skill are what you'd use for the perfect
footballer.
When Chico was on the X-Factor we called him `Chico Time'. He loves the
banter and loves his clothes. He won't wear anything without a name brand on
it. I hammer him for that everyday.
RYAN GIGGS: Every footballer, not just at United, looks up to Giggsy for his
ability and the way he has conducted himself.
He could have had the lifestyle and profile that David Beckham has got but
he has chosen a different way. He could have been the world superstar and
global icon but he wanted to concentrate on his football and his trophy
cabinet speaks for itself.
I would love to be able to walk away from football having achieved the
things he has.
OLE SOLSKJAER: The living legend. He's a fantastic person and the lads love
him. He has been unfortunate with his knee problems over the last two years
or more and we'd all love him to score again at the Stretford End. I watch
the reserves these days just to see how he is doing.
Not sure about his taste of music though. He had the all time worst CD on
the coach once and he has been hammered for it. I don't even know what or
who it was and I love my music, that's how bad it was.
TIM HOWARD: Great ability as a goalkeeper. Unbelievable in his first year
and since has been in and out. But he is going to be a great goalkeeper.
Some of the saves he produces on the training pitch are unbelievable.
PHIL BARDSLEY: A great local lad. Just unfortunate he is behind Gary
Neville. He has been through the ranks at United and you can see him being a
regular right back at this club in the future. It is just a matter of time.
He is really down to earth.
KIERAN RICHARDSON: He used to play against my brother in London when they
were kids so I have known him a long time. When the manager was having a
difficult time with injuries he came through and showed his worth. He's
going to be a top player.
GIUSEPPE ROSSI: He does phenomenal things with a football. What a
goalscorer. I watch the reserves and see him banging in the goals and I text
people and say you should see what he is doing to these people. At any other
club in the country he would be first choice but he has Ruud, Wayne and
Louis in front of him.
GERARD PIQUE: Like Giuseppe he can't beat me at two-touch. He has a long way
to go before he can come into the arena with me!
But he's a good lad and is working hard. Was a bit lightweight at first but
he is filling out and putting the work in in the gym and you'll see in the
future what a very good player he will become.
RIO FERDINAND: A down to earth normal lad. King of Pro-Evolution Soccer on
the PlayStation with Darren Fletcher. If anyone wants to test us and think
they can step up to us then let me know. Nobody in the club can get near us.
We are ranked number one and if anybody wants to try and knock us off the
top then bring them on!
I have only been playing it for six months and now nobody can touch me and
Fletch!
I was a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo when I was younger with my clothes but I
have only been shopping once or twice properly for myself in the last year.
But I do love my music.
I love being at United and there is no other place I would rather be.
