Liverpool star John Arne Riise faces three weeks out through injury.

The Norwegian international missed Wednesday's UEFA Champions League defeat to Benfica with a hip problem.

Riise sustained the injury in last weekend's draw with Charlton and he has been advised to rest the problem for three weeks.

The player's advisor Jan Kvalheim admitted the injury was a real blow for Riise at such a crucial stage of the season.

"He has been for a medical and treatment every day, but needs to rest for three weeks," Kvalheim told VG.

"John Arne feels the injury came at a very bad time. He is in terrific form, has played much and looked forward to many important matches."

Meanwhile, Marcus Pedersen's agent has confirmed the Ham-Kam teenager has been invited over to Anfield for a trial.

The 15-year-old has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after his goalscoring exploits for Ham-Kam.

Pedersen's representative Jack Karadas admitted they are working on finding a suitable date to go over for the trial.

"It is correct that Liverpool want Marcus to come for a trial, but we haven't decided when it will be," Karadas told Hamar Arbeiderblad.

Campbell, Van Persie, Cygan close to return

Sol Campbell, Robin van Persie and Pascal Cygan are set for a return to full training in the next few days.

The trio have been missing for some time. Campbell (bruised ankle bone) and Van Persie (broken toe) have been out since the 3-2 defeat against West Ham on February 1 while Cygan injured his hamstring in the 7-0 win over Middlesbrough on January 14. But the wait is nearly over.

“Cygan, Van Persie and Campbell will return to the squad for training by the weekend,” said Arsène Wenger in an exclusive video interview on Thursday afternoon. “But, of course, they have not played for a long, long time and they need some competition.”

The Arsenal manager expects no new absentees for the crucial Premiership game with Liverpool at the weekend despite picking up some bumps and bruises in Wednesday night’s 0-0 match with Real Madrid that saw his side reach the last eight of the Champions League.

“Freddie Ljungberg had a calf problem,” said Wenger. “I saw him limping after the game but I don’t know how bad he is. Thierry Henry got a knock on his knee so did Jens Lehmann. But they should all be alright.”
