Massive Xavi boost for Barca
Barcelona star Xavi has resumed training just four months after knee ligament surgery.
The midfielder tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session back in December.
It was assumed he would miss the remainder of the domestic season as well as this summer's World Cup finals in Germany, however he has made excellent progress and is already closing on a return to full training.
"I feel good, I'm confident and I hope to be training with the rest of the group soon, in one or two weeks," he told Barca's website.
"I want to help Barcelona win two titles this year, but I have not set any return dates.
"I have to take it step by step to avoid any other problems."
The 26-year-old admitted he still harboured hopes of featuring for Spain in Germany, but insisted he has a lot to prove if he is to make Luis Aragones' final cut.
"I know that Luis Aragones is very interested in me, but it is still to soon to talk about that," he said of his World Cup chances.
"However, I am feeling positive."

Vicente fears World Cup KO
Valencia winger Vicente admits he is giving up hope of appearing for Spain at the World Cup finals.
The left-sided star has been on the sidelines since injuring his right ankle in a league game with Osasuna back in January.
A similar complaint saw him miss a sizeable chunk of last term and he has managed only 28 league starts for his club over the last two seasons.
It is hoped he will be back in full training within two weeks, but the player feels he faces an uphill struggle to play himself into contention for the Spanish squad.
"As things stand it is obvious that I won't be going to the finals. It is going to be very difficult," he told television station Canal 9.
"All I'm worried about at the moment is getting back to full fitness to be able to help my team finish in the top four."
At 24, Vicente already has 38 caps to his name and has been a regular for Spain under Luis Aragones when fit.
Although pessimistic about his own chances, Valencia insist the player still has a realistic chance of making the showpiece in Germany and expect him to be back in first-team action before the end of April.
"We hope that he will be training at the same level as the rest of the squad in 15 days," doctor Che Antonio Giner declared.
"We will tell him that everything is progressing according to plan and that he shouldn't be so pessimistic." |
