Emre unsure over future
Turkish schemer Emre has admitted that he is not certain to remain at Newcastle next term.
The creative midfielder was brought to Newcastle last summer, with then manager Graeme Souness selling the move to Emre by insisting the club would be battling for the UEFA Champions League places.
The reality has proved markedly different to the script, as Newcastle have toiled in the bottom half of the table and Souness is no longer at the club.
Emre was linked with a return to Italy recently and he has suggested there is no guarantee he will remain on Tyneside.
"When I joined Newcastle, I thought we could finish in the top six or even qualify for the Champions League," he told the Daily Mirror. "That is how I felt when I arrived. Now it is really difficult. Now it's impossible.
"It has been a bit difficult both for me and the team this season. Maybe I will be here next season, it's 70 or 80 percent I will be here because I have a five-year contract."
Newcastle are still seeking a new manager and Emre says who takes charge at St James' Park will have a bearing on his future.
"I am not going to say I want to go because I do not have other possibilities," he added. "I am happy here. But of course I need to see who the next manager is.
"But, for next year, I don't want to say too much because we have another seven important games.
"But I am happy when I am in the team and I am happy in the dressing room. But in the summer I want to think about my future for next season."
Emre claims Newcastle have the potential to be challenging for honours at the top of The Premiership.
"I believe in United for the future because the club has potential, both the team and the supporters.
"The team would have done better if we did not have so many injuries this season. You only want to use about 17 players but we have not had a strong bench.
"You need a strong bench if you want to play in the Champions League. It is not my job to say if the squad needs strengthening.
"The last three games for us have been very bad. We have to play a lot better. A few weeks ago I said we had to aim for Europe but I think now for us, it is a bit difficult.
"I like this club because they have ambitions and want to be like Manchester United or Arsenal. The club has potential."
