MADRID, Spain (AP) -- Villarreal's Javi Venta was one of five new names in a list of 33 players called up Friday by Spain coach Luis Aragones for a pre-World Cup gathering next week.
Defender Venta has helped Villarreal reach the semifinals in its debut Champions League season. The side will play Arsenal.
The four other newcomers called up for the one-day meeting on Monday were Jaime Gavilan of Getafe, Juan 'Melli' Andreu of Betis, Zaragoza's Ruben 'Cani' Gracia and Borja Oubinha of Celta Vigo.
Aragones recalled Chelsea defender Asier del Horno, who was dropped for Spain's friendly last month against Ivory Coast. Also recalled were in-form Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares and winger Vicente Rodriguez, who has been injured.
Arsenal's 18-year-old midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, and winger Jose Antonio Reyes were also named.
Real Madrid striker Raul Gonzalez -- Spain's top scorer and captain -- and Barcelona's midfielder Xavi Hernandez have had serious injuries in recent months but were also on the list.
Jose Maria 'Guti' Gutierrez, who has captained Real Madrid recently, was not picked, indicating he is unlikely to be called for the World Cup.
Liverpool's Jose Reina, Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia and Fernando Morientes were also included.
Spain plays Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia in World Cup Group H.
The final 23-player squad will be announced May 15. Before the June 9-July 9 tournament, Spain has at least one friendly, against Russia, on May 27.
