There are reports that Milan are ready to hand Christian Abbiati over to Roma in exchange for Alexander Doni.
This would give the Rossoneri two Brazilian goalkeepers, as Doni would become the back-up for Nelson Dida at the San Siro.
Roma are eager to be rid of the shot-stopper, who was given his Serie A debut this season, but is refusing to extend his contract without a significant pay rise.
“Doni knows what we have given him here at Roma,” said Coach Luciano Spalletti last week. “It’s clear for all to see what a great opportunity this has been. I am surprised by the actions of his agent, as in my career it’s the first time I’ve seen a manager tell the club his intentions through radio stations and newspapers.”
In turn, Abbiati would not be content with another campaign on the bench and, although he will return to Milan at the end of his current loan spell at Juventus, he probably won’t stay there long.
Roma would be willing to give him a first team jersey and therefore a chance at getting into the Azzurri squad.
Abbiati has made 17 Serie A appearances for Juve this season in place of the injured Gianluigi Buffon and impressed, even saving a penalty in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina.
