Heinze Set To Return Against Black Cats





Gabriel Heinze could make a shock return to the United first-team for the Good Friday visit of Sunderland.
Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the Argentine, absent since rupturing cruciate knee ligaments in September, was almost named as a substitute in the weekend win over Arsenal.

"Gabi has been back in training for the last three weeks and he is looking fantastic," he said. "It was a toss up as to whether or not he should be on the bench against Arsenal at the weekend."

Fans' favourite Gabi, who won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last season, could return to action against the Black Cats after impressing Sir Alex in training.

"He has been tackling like a tiger, has shown great energy in training and his enthusiasm is infectious," admitted the Scot.

"He is very close and it may be I give him a go against Sunderland later this week."

Sir Alex Ferguson was in the crowd as Paris Saint Germain beat Lille in the Coupe de France, as speculation mounts as to his summer transfer targets may be.

The Scottish tactician has been reassured that money will be made available to bring in fresh faces in the close-season and it has been suggested France could be where he chooses to use the Glazers' millions.

United have in the past bought from France with mixed success, as the likes of Gabriel Heinze, Patrice Evra and Eric Djemba-Djemba have all been plucked from Ligue 1 in recent years.

Lyon's midfield powerhouse Mahamadou Diarra has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford but Ferguson's appearance at Parc des Princes is sure to raise eyebrows further.

Lille midfielder Jean Makoun has previously been cited as a target, with the young Cameroon international having stated he was confident that United would bid for his services in the summer.

Likewise, PSG forward Bonaventure Kalou has also been linked and the 27-year-old Ivory Coast international could well have impressed having scored his side's first goal in a 2-1 success.

Reserves Jet Off To Dallas

United Reserves have flown an U19s squad to the US to take part in the Dallas Cup.

It is the first time the Reds will have a side in the U19s section of the tournament, and they are in Super Group 'A' alongside Spanish giants Real Madrid.

David Beckham and Wayne Rooney are among the players to have graced the tournament in their younger years, and Reserves boss Rene Meulensteen expects his players to benefit from the experience.

"It's a high quality tournament, that's why the club wants us to go," Rene told ManUtd.com. "The opening game is against Real Madrid, which will be a great experience for the lads.

"Besides that we will do our best. We need to be sensible with the squad rotation to ensure that everyone gets a good experience, both on and off the pitch."

United will open the tournament against Madrid on Sunday night at Pizza Hut Park Stadium, before facing Mexicans CF Monterrey on Monday and FC Delco Crunch of the US on Wednesday.

The tournament's semi-finals will take place on Friday, May 14 before the grand final on Sunday, April 16.

Meulensteen's hopes his side will return to Manchester refreshed by their trip, and ready for their vital title clash with Aston Villa on April 22.

"I hope it brings them back refreshed," he said. "Then we need to come back and really be focused on the title race. We could do with Villa drawing their game before they face us, then we can win the league at Villa."
