Senegal want legendary Italian tactician Giovanni Trapattoni to lead the African nation to the 2010 World Cup Finals.
Trapattoni is currently out of work after he was shown the door at Stuttgart earlier this season just months after leading Benfica to the Portuguese title.
Although he has failed to confirm the whisper, he has hinted that he has been approached by the surprise 2002 World Cup side.
“I can’t really say anything,” he stated. “I’ve received some offers, but my only concern is the distance between my home and the locations involved.”
Senegal have failed to qualify for Germany 2006 and they are desperate to make sure the same doesn’t happen for the South African tournament.
Trapattoni, despite his age, seems set to continue his coaching career even if the chances of him again landing a top job in Italy look over.
Having won everything possible with Juventus, he is also the last man to Coach Inter to the Scudetto in 1989.
He subsequently enjoyed spells at Bayern Munich, where he won another League title, and also Fiorentina.
He left the Viola in the summer of 2000 when he replaced Dino Zoff as the boss of the Italian national side.
However, despite his glorious club record, he never managed to mirror his success on the international stage.
The Azzurri went out at the second round stage of the 2002 World Cup to South Korea and failed to progress past the group phase of Euro 2004. |
