Sunday’s game at the Stadio San Filippo has been registered as a 3-0 win for Empoli after Messina fans forced it to be abandoned.

The Tuscans were already winning 2-1 when the referee decided the match could not be concluded, leaving the field after 89 minutes of play.

The supporters in the Sicilian city were angry that Messina had already been relegated and suspended the tie several times by throwing objects on to the pitch.

In the first half these were lit flares, then after the break bottles of water and even tomatoes were hurled at players.

The 3-0 result will go towards Empoli’s standings in the Serie A table, but because the game was abandoned, the goals scored by Nicola Pozzi and Antonio Nocerino will not count.

Messina will also have to play the first home game of the 2006-07 Serie B season on neutral turf due to a one-match ban on the Stadio San Filippo.

The Disciplinary Commission has suspended 13 players for the final round of this campaign: Burdisso (Inter), Fini (Ascoli), Paci (Ascoli), Cristante (Messina), Innocenti (Messina), Zanchi (Messina), Vieira (Juventus), Franceschini (Reggina), Lucarelli (Reggina), Scurto (Chievo), Conti (Cagliari), E Filippini (Treviso), Galante (Livorno).
