Inter are closing in on an agreement to sign Palermo’s international left-back Fabio Grosso, according to reports.
The highly-rated stopper, who is set to travel to Germany 2006 with Italy, is a confirmed transfer objective for the Nerazzurri.
Inter owner Massimo Moratti and his Palermo counterpart Maurizio Zamparini met on Friday afternoon to start discussions.
There has since been further contact between Inter President Giacinto Facchetti, technical director Marco Branca and the Rosanero’s sporting director Rino Foschi.
Internazionale are understood to have thus overtaken Roma in the race for the former Perugia player.
The capital outfit were understood to be ready to bid £2.5m for Grosso as well as offer their 50 per cent share in Cesare Bovo, who is already in a co-ownership agreement with the Sicilian club.
However, Inter are ready to offer cash or include one of numerous players who are wanted by the Barbera outfit.
Chilean playmaker David Pizarro and Argentine stopper Nicolas Burdisso are two men who Zamparini is keen on.
Inter are also understood to be tracking Palermo central midfielder Simone Barone, another probable World Cup Azzurro.
