MANCINI: "I COACH WITH ENTHUSIASM"
Wednesday, 10 May 2006 17:19:41
APPIANO GENTILE - Part four of Roberto Mancini's pre-Inter v Roma news conference:
Would a Tim Cup final victory be a further confirmation for Roberto Mancini ahead of next season?
"I don't know. Even though the Tim Cup was our third objective for the season, for me it's important to win tomorrow, and the same goes for the team, the club and the fans. We will see after."
You have been at Inter for two years and you're preparing for a third season with the Nerazzurri. Will you tell the club that you are prepared to stay only if there is complete faith in you?
"If a coach stays it's because the club is convinced. If a club isn't sure about its coach, he shouldn't stay. But I don't have any big problems, I'm not thinking about this thing. The work done up to now has been long and hard, and goals can be reached when you least expect them. In any case, everyone has to have the will."
Is your enthusiasm now the same as on your first day at Inter?
"Absolutely. I do this job with enthusiasm and I have already said this many times."
Do you have any strange feelings, maybe from reading transfer market gossip?
"I don't have any strange feelings. Transfer market gossip is normal, and some of it can also be true. I'm never offended by these things. I'm the Inter coach and I try to do my job in the best way possible. Anything can happen in football, but I have no big worries or fears."
Are you feeling a bit uncertain about your future?
(Mancini smiles) "No, because it's hard to find a better coach than me..."
Does it irritate you to hear the rumours of Fabio Capello being your potential replacement at Inter? You had a few digs at each other in Rome...
(Mancini smiles) "Not sometimes, all the time... Seriously, if Inter change coach it's normal for them to go after big-name coaches. And it's not as if there are many big-name coaches who are free, so it's not that difficult to go after one or another." |
