Werder Bremen have snapped up Brazilian midfielder Diego as Johan Micoud looks set to leave Germany.
Bremen are willing to let Micoud leave and have moved quickly to bring in Diego from Porto as his replacement.
Diego has signed a four-year deal at Bremen after dropping down the pecking order at Porto last season.
The 21-year-old was delighted to make the switch to Germany.
"I am really looking forward to coming to Werder and am glad to be able to play football again, since I was often only on the bench at Porto," said Diego.
"I cannot wait to get to know my new team-mates and experience the enthusiasm of the fans."
As a result, Bremen have agreed to allow French playmaker Micoud to leave the club.
The highly-rated schemer has admitted he would like to sample Premiership football, but Bordeaux and Paris Saint Germain are believed to be leading the race for his signature.
After formerly playing for Les Girondins, Bordeaux are in a good position to tempt Micoud to return on what will probably be the last big contract of his career.
French radio station RMC has reported that Bordeaux's Michel Pavon met with the player last week in Germany.
"I don't know yet which club I will join," Micoud told Die Welt.
"But Werder director Klaus Allofs is negotiating with a number of clubs."
