Matteo Ferrari and Marco Materazzi are believed to be on Villarreal’s summer shopping list, according to reports.
The Spanish outfit, who sensationally reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, are desperate to add a little solidity to their rearguard.
New sporting director Amedeo Carboni, a former Roma and Italy left-back, is understood to have singled out Materazzi (pictured) as a priority signing.
The tough-tackling centre-back has been linked with an Inter exit this summer and Spain could be a decent option for him.
Although Lazio are also keen on the stopper, the ex-Everton man may be convinced to try his luck in La Liga.
Should the Yellow Submarines fail in their bid to sign ‘Matrix’ then Carboni may approach his ex-club, Roma, for Ferrari.
The former Under-21 international star is known to be available for sale after spending a problematic campaign at Everton in the Premiership.
The ex-Lecce and Parma man has returned to the Stadio Olimpico after his loan spell, but it’s unclear where he will be playing next term. |
