Serbia & Montenegro centre back Nemanja Vidic is out of the World Cup finals due to a knee injury.
The Manchester United defender, who missed Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Holland through suspension, will now take no part in the Balkan nation's campaign in Germany.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during a training session on Monday, as the Serbo-Montenegrins prepared for Friday's difficult encounter with Argentina in Gelsenkirchen.
Team spokesman Aleksandar Boskovic stated Vidic had damaged left knee ligaments, thus 'putting him out of play for several weeks'.
The loss of Vidic is a blow to Serbia & Montenegro's World Cup hopes, as they need a decent result against Argentina to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive |
