Computer Engineering major of class 2006, Cheung Chui Ying Cherie, achieves the highest GGA (Graduation Grade point Average) and CGA (Cumulative Grade point Average) in the university history. She struck 100% A+ for all the courses she took in HKUST, earning her a perfect GGA and CGA of 12.0. According to the university, she is the first UG graduating student with such a high score.
Cherie entered Computer Engineering at HKUST as an EAS (Early Admission Scheme) student in fall 2003. In the summer 2004, she worked in Multimedia Technology Research Center in HKUST to develop video processing technology, and achieved 2nd class honour in the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest. Cherie subsequently went to UCSD as an exchange student during the year 2004-2005 and worked on a research project related to virtualization. In her FYP, together with CPEG students Lui Cheuk Pan Anthony and Wong Long Sing Sam, she developed a novel peer-to-peer interactive video system which is currently undergoing commercialization. This summer, together with postgraduate student of the Computer Science and Engineering Department Chan Tsz Ho, she is working on the state-of-the-art 4G technology, which is also known as WiMax.
After the summer, Cherie will enter the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of Washington, Seattle (USA), to pursue a PhD. She will not go there empty-handed, as she has received a 3-year studentship from the university.
