Pessotto rushed to hospital Tuesday 27 June, 2006

Gianluca Pessotto, the new Juventus team manager, is fighting for his life after a freak accident in Turin this morning.

Reports suggest that the former defender, who only retired from the game this summer, fell from a second floor window at the club’s headquarters in Corso Galileo Ferraris.

Pessotto has been rushed to the Molinette hospital with what, at this stage, seem to be serious injuries.

The former Torino player was only appointed as team manager this month after Alessio Secco was promoted to sporting director.

The news has also reached the Italian national team camp in Germany today.

Captain Fabio Cannavaro, a teammate and friend, left a media conference this morning when told of the incident.

Gianluca Pessotto, the new general manager of Juventus, has been rushed to
hospital after falling from a window at the club's headquarters.

The 35-year-old former Juventus player fell from the top floor of the
building and landed between two parked cars.

He has sustained multiple fractures, but is still conscious and not believed
to be in a life-threatening condition.

Reports say Pessotto threw himself off the balcony on the second floor while
holding a rosary in his hands. Police are investigating it as a possible
suicide attempt.
Pessotto fell 10 metres into an internal courtyard, hitting two parked cars

before landing on the ground.

Fabio Cannavaro, a former team-mate of Pessotto's at Juventus, left an Italy
press conference in Germany after being told of the incident.

Juventus chief press officer Marco Girotto said to www.gazzetta.it: "We
don't know how this has happened. We'll see.

"Gianluca reportedly has multiple fractures but they are not life

threatening.''
