Birmingham midfielder Muzzy Izzet has been forced to retire from
football due to a long-term knee injury.
The former Turkey international, 31, had a year left on his contract but
has decided to quit the game after failing to overcome the persistent
problem.
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce told the club's website: "Muzzy has come to
the point where his knee is very painful. He can't fulfil what he wants
to do.
"We would like to thank him for his efforts during his two years here."
Izzet played just 28 games for Birmingham after moving from Leicester in
the summer of 2004. He scored just one goal for the club against Bolton
in September of that year.
The former Chelsea trainee spent eight years at Filbert Street and
clocked up over 300 appearances.
Bruce added: "When he signed for us he arrived with an exemplary
appearance record and hardly missed a game through injury.
"But he has endured a terribly frustrating time with us and you can't
help but feel for him."
Izzet's contract with Birmingham, who were relegated from the
Premiership last season, has now been cancelled by mutual consent.
